How to become an Enterprise Architect

Having an IT degree is essential, but because enterprise architects are in such a high level position, it will also require a great deal of career experience to gain the knowledge necessary to be successful in this job.

Degrees aren't generally offered in enterprise architecture, but some universities and other organizations provide certification programs focused on underlying concepts, best practices and tools. Industry certifications are good to see on a candidate's resume, such as the certificate for systems engineer (CSE), certified information security manager (CISM), certified information systems auditor (CISA) or certified information systems security professional (CISSP). These certifications, coupled with an IT degree and career experience, will help individuals work their way up to the position of enterprise architect.
