In order to become a medical and clinical laboratory technician, one will need an associate's degree or a certificate from a hospital, vocational or technical school. For medical and clinical laboratory technicians in the health industry, certification is a prerequisite for most jobs and is often necessary for advancement. Agencies certifying medical and clinical laboratory technicians include the Board of Registry of the American Society for Clinical Pathology, and the Board of Registry of the American Association of Bioanalysts (see below).
